Ángel Yegros

Bio

Angel Yegros (Asunción, 1943) is one of the great references of modern art in Paraguay. He was a member of “Los Novísimos”, a group of young artists who burst onto the cultural scene in Asunción in 1964 with proposals that brought the notes of the international cosmopolitan scene closer to Paraguay. The group, which also included William Riquelme, Enrique Careaga and José Antonio Pratt Mayans, learned first-hand about the experiences of the Di Tella Institute in Buenos Aires and represented Paraguay at the II American Biennial in Córdoba. Starting in the 1980s, Ángel Yegros devoted himself to sculpture using industrial waste material. He made pieces of large dimensions and small format, combining iron, bronze, copper, glass, semi-precious stones, industrial resins and organic elements. He ventured into perfumery from the cultivation of aromatic herbs and has created sculptural pieces to store perfume. His works are part of public and private collections in the country and abroad.

Statement

This exhibition brings together different moments in the artistic production of Angel Yegros, from his beginnings in 1962 with William Riquelme, before joining the group Los Novísimos, to recent pieces. The exhibition, which is articulated around the idea of the journey traveled by two friends during 60 years of devotion to art, accounts for poetic and formal searches and discoveries manifested in an eclectic work, intense in content and powerful in expression.
