Statement

The leather
Drawing on conventional supports was his first expressive language. Then the painting he did on the cloths of crosses and coffin clothing. Subsequently, engraving, xylography, etching and experimental ceramics without a wheel.
The shell of the ostrich eggs and the bovine leather as a graphic support are the fruit of his childhood memories.13
Throughout history, leather has been decorated, embossed, painted, stretched, folded, hung, and stylized according to the various uses it has been put to. In the case of Lotte Schulz, reflecting on the need to give the deserved importance to the autochthonous that surrounded her, she chose cowhide as a support for her painting and engraving, taking into account that Paraguay is an eminently cattle-raising country. .14
Lotte Schulz used unborn leather as a support for her graphic work in two ways: The first as a surface that is inferred and engraved as original or matrix, in low or in relief depending on the composition. The second as a canvas or frame on which he paints with a variety of acrylic, oil or Chinese ink, interspersed with gold or silver inlays on the sheet and engraving.
"With the engraving on leather I wanted to express a purely Paraguayan art, that is ours, that has not been seen... So I thought about the engraving on leather. Our forte, I think that until today as a country, is the countryside, the ranches, meat" (Lotte Schulz).
The artist Fabiola Adam considers that "for Paraguayan art, Lotte's leather art is a pioneering, paradigmatic, important work that cannot be ruled out and is one of the most genuine and personal ways of engraving that she has and that few people was encouraged to do and that she studied with great particularity".
"With the engraving on leather I wanted to express a purely Paraguayan art, that is ours, that has not been seen. I always tell my students that: Make your compositions and your themes that no one has ever done and that you have never seen, that born from within you, from the heart, from the hands and from the head. That is the trio that makes an artist solve a composition and make it authentic and original"3 (Lotte Schulz).
